Corpus Christi

About a week and a half late in posting, but these are some photographs from the Corpus Christi celebrations in Lima and Cusco. In Lima, hundreds crowded the Plaza Mayor to attend mass and watch a procession led by Cardinal Cipriani. The religious ceremonies were followed by crowds atop crowds singing and cheering to music with balloons and confetti.

In Cusco, I was able to see the first day of the Corpus Christi celebrations while waiting for the plane to take me back to Lima. In Cusco, members of nearby churches carried figures of their patron saints through the cobble-stoned streets. The celebrations in Cusco were a bit more light-hearted and colorful and I really enjoyed sharing food and drinks with the people who invited me to aprovechar. Peruvians’ passion for religion still amazes me.
