Protesting Rising Crime Rate

Today I photographed a protest in Lima that was organized by several civil rights groups in response to the rising crime rate in Peru’s major metropolitan areas. Many people carried signs of El Comercio photojournalist Luis Choy, was who was recently murdered in front of his home, a case that remains unsolved. I was very impressed by the multitude of people who marched for nearly three hours along the city streets, all representing different ages, genders and ethnicities. The energy was very powerful, culminating in a very emotional ending where hundreds of people sang, cheered and cried for an end to the violence.
